Frequently Asked Questions About Lessons and Clinics
What Makes a Lesson Successful? a. I follow this up with, Does your child really want the lesson? Your child is going to learn new things and they have to take them home and practice the things over and over. So much of playing ball is muscle memory. By changing a child's incorrect habit, the child must reteach their muscles to do the new skill correctly. The only way to reteach the muscles is to practice on top of the lesson.
B.Good chemistry between yourself, the coach and your child. Your need to be apart of the lesson, because you are going to help them practice. Back to top
Is the Instructor qualified to teach my child? Your money is hard earned and you want someone who is qualified to teach your child. You want someone who has either played the game or taught the game for a living. Remember, just by playing the game does not mean they can coach the game. If they talk about playing The Game, check it out. They may say, "I played AA Ball or pitched in The Major Leagues for a certain Baseball organization." Look them up in either www.thebaseballcube.com or www.baseball-reference.com. Look at their statistics and see if the statistics match what they are saying the truth tells a lot about the instructor. How long should the lesson be? The idea of the lesson is to do teach how to do things correctly. A private lesson over a half hour is a long-long time. Think about how many swings a child can take in five minutes and multiply the by six. That is a thirty-minute lesson. A full hour for a specific item is too long. A full hour with half an hour pitching and a half hour hitting is appropriate, but a full hour of one item will lead to a child tiring and incorrect habits being formed. Back to top
How many lessons do I need? Lessons are a commitment. I wish I had an instructor that has the magic formula to fix what ever is wrong and make your child a perfect ball player in one lesson, but that is not practical. Make sure your expectation of the instructor is realistic. Back to top
How age should I start my child with lessons? You know your child the best. Make sure they are mature enough to be able to make changes and sustain them. Back to top
When can the lessons be scheduled for? We are able to schedule lessons for almost every weekday at a time of your convenience.
